Hollow Lantern hides a lot, and it never tells you outright. The game rewards players who slow down and actually look at the walls instead of running past them.

Your lantern is a tool, not just a light source. Draughts make the flame flicker, and that flicker points toward hidden openings. We missed this entirely for the first hour and then couldn't unsee it.

Backtracking is intended, not a mistake. Many passages only make sense after you've found a tool elsewhere, so keep a mental note of doors you couldn't open yet.
