Building a Party That Survives in Ember Vanguard

Building a Party That Survives in Ember Vanguard

August 19, 2026 · Marta Lindqvist

Ember Vanguard punishes lazy party setups fast. Early on we threw our fragile mage in the front row because the fire damage looked great, and she got flattened before she could act. Positioning is half the battle here.

Think in layers. Front row soaks hits, middle deals steady damage, back row handles the burst and support. A single shield-carrier up front can change whether your whole run survives a boss opener.

Don't neglect the companion relationships either. When two of your fighters are on good terms they occasionally chain attacks, and that free extra hit has saved us more than once. It's worth spending downtime smoothing over their squabbles.

Finally, respec often. The game lets you rework skill trees cheaply, so there's no reason to stay locked into a build that isn't working for the fight ahead.
